By this year, the Black population of Buffalo had risen to 100,000, yet only two hundred units of new housing had been built. Blacks were essentially stuffed into the small east side area.

Riots rocked the East side of Buffalo from June 26th through July 1st of 1967, virtually shutting down the city. In one night (June 28th) of Violence over 40 people were hurt, 14 with gunshot wounds.
