Desmond is a member of the unique Stephens family. His sister, Monica Stephens, earned her Ph.D. from Brown University in 1998. His wife, Sonya Stephens, earned her Ph.D. from Florida Institute of Technology in 1998. Desmond and Monica Stephens were raised in a military family and did schooling overseas, while never being able to call a specific town or area home.
