Prince Taylor was a black revolutionary war veteran. In May 1791, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison visited Tayor's farm in Ticonderoga, east of Syracuse. According to Madison's doary, they claim to have seen no sign of civilization along Lake George until they met a Black man employing white indentured servants to work his farm on the northeast shore of the lake. - yes I know this is a bit east for "Western New York."
