Two recent bridge hands.

Match Points in a club. Playing 4 Spades, LHO leads the Diamond K.

Dummy: S: A53. H: AJ65. D: T86. C: QT9.

You: S: KQT874. H: K. D: A972. C: 75.

Win with the Ace, cash the spade King, then heart King. Use the Spade 7 to get to dummy. Trumps split 2-2. Now Heart Ace (pitching a club) and Heart ruff with the Spade 8. It's your lucky day as the Heart Queen falls. Play the Spade 4 to the 5 and pitch your other club on the Heart J. Finally come off dummy with a Diamond, and lose only the Q and J of Diamonds to make 5.

The very next hand, both white.

Dummy: S: KJT64. H: J875. D: T7. C: AT.

You: S: 853. H: 6. D: AK8532. C: 865.

RHO deals and opens 1NT (15-17). After 2 passes, partner (dummy) bids 2D asking for majors. After considering a pass, I bid 2 spades. I'm glad partner's majors weren't reversed.

LHO was friendly and led a heart. RHO won and played the Ace of Spades and another trump to LHO's Q and dummy's K. I played a diamond and ducked to LHO's 9. LHO played her last trump to dummy's J. Since Diamonds were 3-2, I could claim for +170.
