Text: Multivariable Calculus: Early Transcendentals, James Stewart.

Material to be covered: We will cover parts chapters 12 through 16. Furthermore, students are responsible for all material that is covered in lecture. Therefore, it is important to keep a good set of lecture notes. If you miss a lecture, borrow notes from a classmate. Unless you have studied this subject before you will probably need to spend 2 to 3 hours on average to review each day's lecture and complete the assignments. Learning mathematics requires steady effort. Cramming is very risky.

Homework: There will be on-line homework using the web-base program WebAssign which is at url https://www.webassign.net/login.html. Each student already has a WebAssign account: Username = UB student # ; Institution = buffalo ; password = UB student #. Upon first login you should change your password. No key will be necessary for the first two weeks. After that time, you will need to have entered your key that came with your text book bundle to access the course. Select as your course Math 241E. Then go to Calendar to see due dates/times of homework assignments. Homework is 20% of your grade. Homework is graded on-line all you can view your scores on-line. For suggestions of problems to practice go to suggestions for homework site.

Examinations: There will be 4 hour-examinations during the lecture period and a homework assignment for each lecture. There will be no make-up examinations. If you have a valid excuse for missing an examination, your grade will be computed by averaging your scored exams. If you have no valid excuse, a score of zero will be given for any missed exam. You must take at least 3 hour-examinations. All scored exams will be used in the computation of the student's grade. Each hour-exam is 20% of your grade . Calculators, or other aids for memory and computation, are not allowed. Due to the University's personal privacy policies, graded exams will not be returned to students in class. Graded exams will be returned to students only during office hours. Therefore, you must make time to visit me during my office hours.

Recitations: Questions on lecture material and homework assignments will be covered by the teaching assistant in recitation. The TA is Mr. Prasanth George whose office is Rm. 137 in the Mathematics Building. His email is pgeorge3@buffalo.edu. The 241E1 section meets Monday at 11am in 212 O'Brian and the 241E2 section meets Wednesday at 11am in 214 O'Brian.

Absence from examination: If absence is due to illness, I require:
-on the day of the exam- a telephone call or e-mail to me indicating that you are ill. (If I do not answer my phone, please leave a message in my voice mail-box.)
-as soon as you are well-a note from a doctor indicating that you were under care at the time of the exam.
If absence is due to family emergency, I require a letter from a parent, signed with name, date, and address, and mailed directly to me at the Mathematics Department.
The penalty for an absence not excused is an exam score of zero.

Dates to remember: Friday, September 7th- Last day to drop the course.
Friday, September 7th- Last day to file Petition to make up an incomplete with the Mathematics Department for Spring 2007.
Friday, November 9th- Last day to resign from the course. An "R" will appear on your transcript.

Students with disabilities: If you have a diagnosed disability (physical, learning or psychological) which will make it difficult for you to carry out the course work as outlined, or require accommodations such as recruiting note takers, readers, or extended time on exams and/or assignments, please advise me during the first two weeks of the course so we may review possible arrangements for reasonable accommodations.

Incomplete: A student will only be given an incomplete for circumstances beyond his/her control, e.g. surgery during finals week. Failure is NOT a reason for an incomplete.

Making up an incomplete: To make up an incomplete in a math course you must: 1. DO NOT RE-REGISTER FOR THE COURSE...you are making up an incomplete in your original course; 2. Go to Mathematics Building Room 237, ask for Rosemarie Marciniak and ask her to fill our an incomplete petition form for you; 3. Sign the petition; 4a. If your original instructor determined that the work was to be complete with him/her, take the completed petition form to your original instructor for his/her signature; 4b. If your original instructor determined that the work was to be completed by your repeating the course, take the completed form to your new instructor for his/her signature; 5. Return the petition form to Rosemarie Marciniak in Rm. 237, Mathematics Building, by the last day of drop/add.

Academic dishonesty: I choose the most severe penalty that University regulations permit.
