## Prerequisites¶

I will assume you are familiar with the following material:

Topology:basic general topology, CW-complexes, homotopy and homotopy equivalence, the fundamental group of a space.Algebra:groups (including free abelian groups), rings, modulesCategory theory:notions of a category and a functor.

## Textboook¶

There is no required text for this course, but here are a few books that may be useful:

A. Hatcher,Algebraic Topology(Note: this book can be downloaded for free from Allen Hatcher’s website).G. E. Bredon,Topology and Geometry.M. Greenberg, J. Harper,Algebraic Topology: A First Course.

## Homework¶

Homework problems will be asssigned on Thursdays every other week and will be due on Thursday the following week. All homework assignmnets must be typed using LaTeX.

## Exams¶

- The midterm exam will be given on Thursday, March 16.
- The final exam will be given on Thursday, May 18 at 8:00-11:00 AM in Math Building 122 (i.e. our regular classroom).

## Grading¶

- Homework 40%
- Midterm Exam 25%
- Final Exam 35%
