How to set up a Mac OS X to use printerd in Room 205, April 11 2010 B.H.

This printer prints two-sided (duplex)

First, visit
http://www.ricoh-usa.com/downloads/downloads.asp?tsn=Ricoh-USA&path=http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/rc2/model/cl410/cl410en.htm
and download the PPD installer for Mac OSX, the version matching your installed operating system.
Run the PPD installer.

Some more steps are needed before proceeding to printer installation.

  1. Open a terminal, type
    sudo su
    and then enter your password
     
  2. Type the commands
    cd /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources
    cd en.lproj (it's o.k. if this gives a warning)
    cp RICOH\ Aficio\ SP\ C410DN /private/etc/cups/ppd/RICOH_Aficio_SP_C410.ppd.gz

Click the top left Apple logo and select System Preferences...

When "System Preferences" window appears, click on Print & Fax (under Hardware)

When "Print & Fax" window appears, click on the "+" that pops up the message, "Click here to add a printer"

When "Printer Browser" appears, click on "IP Printer"

Select "Protocol: HP Jet Direct-Socket"

If a list of printers appears on the left showing the desired printer, select it.
Otherwise, Type in Address: printerd.math.buffalo.edu

Leave "Queue" blank.

Enter Name: printerd
(shorten "printerd.math.buffalo.edu" to just "printerd")

Location: Room 205

Print Using: RICOH Aficio SP C410DN PS
Then click on Add

When the "Printer Browser" window displays "Installable Options",
select
Optional Tray 2 installed
click on "Continue".

Open Firefox, and print a test page using this printer.
