How to set up a Gnome PC to use printerd in Room 205, Sept. 4 2008 B.H.

This printer is capable of two-sided (duplex) printing

First download the file
Ricoh-Aficio_SP_C410DN_PS.ppd
and save this file in a convenient location, say, on the Desktop.

Do the following:

System -> Administration -> Printing

When the "Printer configuration" window appears, select "New Printer."

You may need to enter your password.

When the "Select Connection" window appears, a list of Devices appears in a left panel.
Select AppSocker/HP JetDirect
and then under Location of the network printer,enter the Host: 128.205.113.1

The boxes in the right panel should now show
Host 128.205.113.1
Port 9100
Then click on -> Forward

When the "New Printer" window appears,
Select Provide PPD file
and then browse to the location of the file Ricoh-Aficio_SP_C410DN_PS.ppd
and select this file.Then click on -> Forward

When the "New Printer/Installed Options" window appears,
choose Option Tray: Tray 2

then click on ->Forward

When the New Printer/Printer name window appears, enter
Printer Name printerd
Description RICOH Aficio SP C410DN
Location Room 205
then click on Apply

The Printer configuration - localhost window will appear.

Highlight this printer. Tabs will appear, for
Settings, Policies, Access Control, Printer Options, and Job Options.

Under Printer Options, make sure that
Media Size: Letter
Duplex: Long Edge
is selected.

Under Job Options, make sure that
Pages per side is 1.

Review the information under the tabs, then select Apply

Then click on Print Test Page
which should then print out on printerd in Room 205.

http://printerd.math.buffalo.edu for status and configuration.
