In 1970, Dr. Simms became Associate Professor and then Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the department of Mathematics at Winston-Salem State University. He has been Vice Chancellor of North Carolina A & T, and retired (February 1998) from the University of North Carolina General Adminstration (Chapel Hill) as Vice President for Student Activities and Special Projects.
