Reuben R. McDaniel

Please note: I have received a paper which is contrary to much of the information below which came from the published work in the 1980s. This new and most likely the correct data is published here:

Born: January 1, 1908 Died: July 4, 1974

place: Plainsville, New Jersey

Ruben McDaniel earned his B.S. from Rutgers University (1925), an M.S. (1928) and Ph.D. (1938) from Cornell University. He was the third African American to earn a Ph.D. in Mathematics. From 1931 until 1969 he worked at Virginia State College (now University) serving in various positions from Professor to Director of the School of Arts and Sciences.
