Aderemi Kuku holds a B.Sc. (Special-honours) in Mathematics from the University of London (1965), and from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria he earned both a M.Sc. (1968) and a Ph.D. (1971), though it appears that Hyman Bass at Columbia University was his advisor. He was Lecturer and Professor of Mathematics at Ibadan from 1968. He served as Head of the Department of Mathematics from 1983-1986, and as Dean of the Postgraduate School from 1986-1990. In 1986 Dr. Aderemi Kuku became the second president of the African Mathematical Union (AMU) he held that position until 1995. In 1987-88 he also served as Chairman of the Committee of Deans of Postgraduate Schools in Nigerian Universities. Professor Kuku has held visiting positions at several universities in the United States, Canada, and Germany" (Science in Africa: Career Strategies for Graduate Studies, AAAS, Washington, 1993, p.41). A.O.Kuku presented the paper "Capacity-building and human resources for accelerated development of science and technology in Africa" (19-22). Today Dr. Kuku is mathematics coordinator at the Miramare International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. e-mail: kuku@ictp.trieste.it
RESEARCH
I have a list of 75 invited lectures given by Professor Kuku outside of Nigeria through 1997. Dr. Kuku's primary research interests are in Algebraic K-Theory. His initial work contributed to the understanding of LF and NF Functors, and Whitehead Groups. Moreover, in collaboration with A. Dress of Bielefield, Germany, he formulated an equivariant Higher Algebraic K-Theory.
