HOWARD HUGHES MEDICAL INSTITUTE VISITING PROFESSORSHIP

Integrating the First Year Mathematics and Biology Curricula

The Departments of Mathematics and Biological Sciences at East Tennessee State University invite applications for visiting positions for our program "SYMBIOSIS: An Introductory Integrated Mathematics and Biology Curriculum for the 21st Century." This project is supported by a four year $1.7M Howard Hughes Medical Institute grant and is an exciting endeavor to reconfigure, unify, and integrate the 3 semester introductory biology sequence, the first semester of the calculus sequence, and an introductory statistics course. We invite applications from experienced colleagues who would like to lend their expertise to our exciting curriculum development efforts. The position would be ideal for a senior person on sabbatical leave, but applications are invited from candidates at all ranks. Duties include (but are not restricted to) writing and publishing teaching materials with an interdisciplinary team; participating in teaching and organizing the labs for the course; disseminating the course material through the web and in workshops. Endowed Chair in Mathematics Education

The Morton Chair: The Ohio University College of Education invites nominations and applications for the Robert L. Morton Chair for Mathematics Education. This esteemed position is a tenured faculty appointment at Full Professor rank. Substantial discretionary funds are provided to support research and other professional activities. The Morton Chair appointee will also inherit Dr. Morton's legacy of scholarship, dedication and innovation in mathematics education.

Robert L. Morton, an influential mathematics scholar, endowed this full-time professorship to promote research and outstanding contributions in the field of mathematics education. Dr. Morton was a Distinguished Professor, the premier honor for Ohio University faculty, and received the Ohio University Board of Trustees' highest citation for exceptional service to the institution.

The College currently features two funded research projects that aim to strengthen the infrastructure and elevate the prominence and visibility of mathematics education in southeastern Ohio, a mission that receives financial support from the state of Ohio.

University of North Texas

The Mathematics Department at the University of North Texas expects to have a tenured or tenure track position to fill for 2007-2008 pending administrative approval. Southern Connecticut State University

SCSU is a 4-year comprehensive public institution in New Haven, CT, that offers undergraduate and graduate programs to about 13,000 students. Stony Brook University, Center for Computational Science

Six Positions - 100 Teraflops

 Stony Brook University seeks candidates with outstanding potential for six tenure-track or tenure positions in the area of large-scale computational science. The University is in the process of acquiring a large (100 Teraflops class) supercomputer to serve as the core hardware for a newly formed New York Center for Computational Science (NYCCS). NYCCS will provide a home for supercomputing at Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Promising scientists who can demonstrate expertise and interest in high-performance computing and/or its utilization are urged to apply. The University will conduct a broad search ranging from traditional computational areas such as those in the physical and life sciences to emerging areas such as those in the social sciences. Bellarmine University

Tenure-track Assistant Professor position available, starting August 2007. The position requires the ability to teach upper-level probability & statistics, to otherwise enhance our program in actuarial science, and to teach service courses in mathematics. The Mathematical Association of America Associate Secretary

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Secretary. The Associate Secretary oversees the scientific programs of the MAA's two national meetings, the Joint Mathematics Meeting, held together with the American Mathematical Society (AMS), and the MAA summer meeting, MathFest.

The Associate Secretary is elected by the Board of Governors for a five-year, renewable term and serves as a member of the Board. The new Associate Secretary will spend at least one year as Associate Secretary Elect before taking office as Associate Secretary in February 2009. Compensation and expenses are negotiable and dependent on the requirements and practices of both the MAA and one's home institution. The position is part-time but requires a commitment of time distributed through the year.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro
