University Required: Transcripts and Proof of Degree, in English, certified

Official TOEFL scores (English Language Proficiency)
Foreign applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit a recent Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score.

Only the Institutional test is accepted; an official report from E.T.S. is required for an I-20. SUNY/Buffalo Institutional Test Code is 2925; TOEFL code for Math is 72. Note: test scores that are more than two years old, based on the beginning of the academic year, not the date of application, will not be accepted.

A minimum official score of 550 on the paper-based or 213 on the computer-based exam and minimum IBT 79 is required to register for academic study. You may include a photocopy of your results though the official scores are required.

A score between 500-549 (paper) or between 173 and 210 (computer) requires satisfactory completion of the SUNY/Buffalo Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) before academic registration. Your score determines the length of time needed for study (6-week or 12-week summer or full semester). IELI will issue an I-20, valid for the study of English only, after your acceptance into its program. You may not register for course work while attending IELI. There is no financial assistance for the study of English.

Official GRE scores are required; both general and subject. The GRE institutional code is 2925 and the department is Mathematics code 0703. Subject test is required for consideration of financial assistance.

Recommendation Letters: three letters of recommendation are also required. Generally they are from former employers or former professors.
