WHAT DO I DO IF...

[INLINE question mark image]

What do I do if I am not going to be able to attend an exam?

Let your lecturer know immediately. Speak to him/her in class, telephone, send an e-mail, or leave a message for him/her with the Math Department. Do not count on being able to take a make-up exam. It is always a good policy to be aware of what documentation verifies your absence to your instructor.

What do I do if I am dropping behind in the course?

Do not expect the situation to change unless you change. Seek help. Speak to the lecturer and/or recitation instructor and ask for advice or assistance. See your advisor. You have the option of resigning the course prior to the deadline for resignation. Many students have made the mistake of persisting in a course which is beyond them.

What do I do if I want to study with others but do not know anyone in class?

The chances are very good that there are others who will be happy to study with you. Simply ask. Remember that even if there is a lot that you don't understand, it is perfectly reasonable for you to ask another student in the class for help. They will sharpen their understanding by explaining concepts to you.

What do I do if I want to make up an Incomplete?

  1. DO NOT REGISTER FOR THE COURSE-you are making up an Incomplete in your original course.
  2. Appear in person at Diefendorf Hall, Room 106, ask for Rosemarie Marciniak or Catherine Bajer, and ask her to initiate an incomplete petition form for you.
  3. Sign the petition.
  4. If your original instructor determined that the work was to be completed with him/her, take the approved petition form to your original instructor for his/her signature.
  5. If your original instructor determined that the work was to be completed by you repeating the course, take the approved petition form to your new instructor for his/her signature.
  6. Return the petition form to Rosemarie Marciniak in Room 106 Diefendorf Hall by the last day to drop/add.

What do I do if I am a student with a disability?

If you have a diagnosed disability (physical, learning, or psychological) which will make it difficult for you to carry out the course work as it is outlined, or requires accommodations such as recruiting note takers, readers, or extended time on exams and/or assignments, please advise your instructor during the first two weeks of the course so he/she may review possible arrangements for reasonable accommodations.

If you have another question, or would like further information, please contact the Math Department.
