YOUR TEXT AND HOW TO USE IT

[INLINE book image]
The text for MTH 141 is Stewart's "Single Variable Calculus", Customized for University at Buffalo, published by Brooks/Cole, 2002.

In order to purchase the book you will need to go to the campus bookstore and tell them which course you are registered in. They will be able to direct you from there.

It is often useful to have it with you in class. Being able to reference the text during class may aid you in following the instructor's comments and references.

You should read carefully through all the material indicated by the instructor for each assignment, and you should work as many problems as necessary in order to be confident that you understand the material. You may need to use your text to study material which the instructor has had time to mention only briefly or not at all. You will also need the text to work more problems than the instructor assigns.

You may also find it useful to obtain the Student Solutions Manual, which contains complete solutions for approximately one-third of the problems in the text. It is best to make a "good faith" effort to answer the problems yourself before consulting the solutions manual. Mathematics cannot be learned without action and effort.
